It might not carry the premium S-Works name, but the new Stumpjumper Comp Carbon 27.5 certainly makes no compromises with its trail-blazing build, featuring the exact same full FACT 11m carbon chassis and rear-end, only in this case, equipped with reliable no-nonsense components. Your budget shouldn't get in the way of that perfect, shredding ride feel, and that's exactly why we've created the Comp Carbon.
Everyone wants to experience that effortless telepathic feel with their bike, especially when you're ragging them down technical trails. We made this one of our biggest design goals and soon found out that it all came down to stiffness the stiffer the bike, the better it translates all the vibrations and bumps from the trail to the rider's hands and feet. To achieve this telepathic connection, we set about changing the materials, shapes and layout of the frame.
Our design process was all about finding the areas where we could make the biggest improvements to performance and efficiency. Our own mountain-specific test along with high-tech Finite Element Analysis (FEA) soon identified the areas where we could make the biggest improvements. The tests revealed that our small and medium sized frames were already super-stiff, but we found that the front ends of both the large and x-large sizes needed a bit of attention. This led us to design a frame that's a massive 20% more efficient, as well as super-light. In fact, it's one of the lightest trail bikes on the market.
With stiffness still in mind, we turned our attention to the sidearm, and ultimately came up with a totally new, radical design to add even more stiffness to our frame. The new sidearm strengthens the three connection points between the front-end and rear-end, as well as shaving a sizeable 100 grams from the rear. The design really comes to life when the rear suspension is active, serving to minimise frame flex as you throw the Stumpy down the trail.
A super-stiff trail bike is great, but it still needs suspension in abundance to absorb all those nasty bumps and roots that litter the trail. As suspension is dependent on the size of frame, wheel and rider, we needed a piece of tech that would guarantee the same linear suspension across the range. That's where the Rx Trail Tune comes in. It enables you to tweak and fine-tune your rig to the perfect ride feel, also keeping it specific to each size platform, ensuring that linear suspension is perfectly uniform across the board.
A trail bike that's easy to live with is going to give you tons of more time to focus on the important stuff shredding the nearest trail. That's why we've brought back threaded bottom brackets and added even more clearance, with space to fit up to a 3.0 tyre. We're also running standard metric shocks to give you the freedom to choose whatever aftermarket shock you please. The SWATTM has had a bit of a makeover too, with a new design that is a lot sleeker, lighter and more roomy than previous models.
One of our coolest new features is the Flip Chip, a handy device that drops your bottom bracket by 6mm and slackens your head tube by half-a-degree to keep you planted when the trail gets that little bit more technical. If you look closely, you'll also see that we've added a new ribbed chainstay protector a new feature which both eliminates chain slap and almost completely silences the drivetrain. Finally, for all you home mechanics, we've added a feature that's going to make your life a whole lot easier guide tubes throughout the carbon frame. Internal cable routing has never been easier.
The Comp Carbon comes complete with a host of high performance, fuss-free components. Featuring a 12-speed SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, SRAM Guide R disc brakes, FOX front and rear suspension and a pair of Roval Traverse 27.5 wheels, you'd struggle to find a trail bike of this spec that suits an everyman's budget.

Striking the perfect balance between lightweight, stiff and trail-ready, the Stumpjumper’s asymmetrical FACT 11m carbon fibre frame is as good as it gets. With 27.5 Trail Geometry built in, the frame is not only capable of ripping any trail, it’s super-comfy too. With a SWATTM box integrated into the down tube, a threaded BB, a new chainstay protector and simple internal cable routing, this bike is ready to shred straight from the box.
Ensuring perfectly linear suspension and adjustable fine-tuning across a wide range of size platforms is our Rx Trail Tune, applied to the FOX DPS Performance rear shock.
