At the top of the list when designing our road bikes is our motto “Aero is Everything”. That’s because we live and breath this philosophy. We even went as far as to build our own Win Tunnel and the results have never been clearer than with the new Venge, now the most aerodynamic bike available on the road. The weight has dropped by 460 grams, and It now comes with the awesome SRAM RED eTAP. What does this amount to? Eight seconds faster than the VIAS. It’s clearly the new shape of speed.
We took it up a notch when perfecting the shape of the Venge’s tubes by adding in the use of the Freefoil Shape Library. With our Engineers writing an algorithm that optimises their shape to create different tubes that have new surface areas with differing weights and structural targets. With this new knowledge in the bank, we jumped into the Win tunnel, plugged the bike into the supercomputer and ran each and every configuration in order to get the fastest bike available.
Looking at the numbers against other names in the aero bike league and comparing to its predecessor the Venge VIAS. This latest incarnation of the Venge racks up an impressive eight-second lead when going 40KM over a stretch at zero-degree yaw and regardless of the wind conditions it’s still the fastest.
With all the new changes in shapes and sizes, you might have missed the other improvements that have been made to improve the Venge’s performance. The thing is that if it’s all about aero then the bike will perform great on the flats but when you’re pounding the sprints and climbs it’s going to be a struggle on anything but the steepest of inclines. In order to counter this while still keeping it slipperier than the ViAS, 460 grams was saved in the weight of the unit, this is broken down to 25 grams in the forks, 107 grams up front in the cockpit, another 25 grams out of the seat post and along with 63 grams in small parts we managed to slim the frame down by a further 240 grams. The New Venge is guaranteed to dominate regardless of the angle of the road or the direction of the wind.
Discoveries were made in the new Tarmacs development and in turn, were used in the weight savings of the Venge. Our Rider-First Engineered™ tubes are improved with different layups and new materials that rounds off in an increase of a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio and 40% more response to the VIAS regardless of frame size. While the changes aren’t visual, it’s only a matter of riding the latest Venge that the improved compliance and lightning acceleration really shows.
Included in this fantastic bike are some exciting new features. The stem has a higher stiffness than anything we’ve tested, the bars are now lighter, stiffer and faster with an added grippy texture for more control. All thanks to designing it in conjunction with our world tour teams. Plus the tyre clearance will now allow a 32mm tyre.
To top it off we’ve included the highest spec components available consisting of the latest SRAM RED eTAP AXS Groupset that have an integrated power meter in the cranks, hydraulic disc brakes and Roval CLX 64 Disc wheels with 700x26mm Turbo Cotton tires.
